Jasper County is updating its hazard mitigation plan, and we want residents to be informed and provide input! All information for the update process and opportunities for input are posted here regularly.
The draft version of the plan is currently available for review and revision during a 30-day public comment. The plan is available here, and the appendix is available here. To submit comments and/or suggested revisions, please complete the Hazard Mitigation Plan Review Survey.
What is a hazard mitigation plan? This plan identifies how your community can minimize the negative impacts of hazards like tornadoes, drought, and flooding. In addition to the benefits of planning ahead, communities with a FEMA approved hazard mitigation plan qualify for Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Grant Programs to complete projects that minimize the negatives impacts of hazards.
A FEMA approved hazard mitigation must be updated every five years, and Jasper County Emergency Management worked with the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) to complete the plan update. ECICOG worked with the county, cities, and school districts in Jasper County to identify hazard risks and potential projects to mitigate the negatives impacts.
